TRIPLE-1 and ctc conduct joint local 5G experiments ~ Further Exploring the Potential of Local 5G with "Massive MIMO" ~

TRIPLE-1, Inc. (Headquarters: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka, Representative Director CEO: Takuya Yamaguchi, Henceforth: TRIPLE-1) and CHUBU TELECOMMUNICATIONS CO., INC. (Headquarters: Naka-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi, Representative Director CEO: Yasuaki Miyakura, Henceforth: ctc) have been conducting a joint local 5G demonstration experiment, using TRIPLE-1's local 5G base station named "TOKI", which is equipped with "Massive MIMO" technology.
This experiment will test the "balance between installation cost and performance," a key issue in the market penetration and deployment of local 5G, using technology that will improve communication quality and increase the amount of data transmitted over simultaneous connections.
We are conducting this investigation to provide a faster and more reliable network, which is only possible with 5G.

Local 5G Market Penetration Issues Addressed by "Massive MIMO" technology.

Conventional local 5G base stations make it difficult for all 5G terminals within a particular location or building to receive a sufficiently strong radio signal, resulting in the need for multiple base stations to be installed. This results in higher installation costs.
TRIPLE-1 and ctc will use "Massive MIMO" technology to tackle this challenge.
"Massive MIMO" refers to a technology which improves the quality of communication and increases the amount of simultaneous connection by using super multi-element antennas mounted on the base station and by directing different beams to different Local 5G terminal.
TRIPLE-1 is participating in this joint experiment by providing "TOKI", its own local 5G base station equipped with "Massive MIMO" technology, as well as designing and building the 5G system. ctc, as a telecommunications provider, will provide a complete environment ranging from base stations to verification facilities, drawing on the needs of its customers for verification of various types of services.
